Personal Background:
Emily is a 42 year old photographer and was born and raised in Austin, Texas on September 2, 1980. Emily is on the road a lot of the time but when she's not, she'll split her time between Austin, where her whole family is, and Nashville, where she has a house. Emily has a dog (Eleanor) who travels with Emily everywhere and is even featured in some of her photographs. Emily's schooling only goes as far as high school, and after that she worked at a few different restaurants for a while but eventually quit to pursue her dream of photography full-time. at first, emily got into photography through her brother who bought her a film camera and showed her the ropes, then she just started taking photo to preserve her memories, eventually it became more of a creative outlet than just a hobb for her and when she started posting the images to instagram and gained a massive following she was able to sign with an agency and then pursue photography full time.
Style:
Emily often uses bright colors to make her photos pop and draw in the viewer. One of her most popular styles of photography is arrangements. She stated that she started arrangements sort of by accident, just grabbing things from around her house and arranging them in a certain way then continued to grow and expand it from there. She also takes portraits of people and does commissioned work for various companies as well.
Philosophy:
With her arrangement photography, Emily says she sort of came by it on accident just arranging a few things from around the house but it just grew from there. She says she tries to let the inspiration of her photos come to her. Emily particularly likes the inspiration to come from her travel, from something that catches her eye or a season that brings lot of color to the environment around her. Emily states that she tries to "use them (her photos) more to tell a story of where i am and what is around me." Emily also says that she creates these photos of the arrangements for herself and that is doesn't matter how "played out" something is.
Influences:
While Emily doesn't mention any major pro photographers sh is inspired by, she says she is majorly influenced by all of her close friends. Emily says "i like to surround myself with people who make me stop and look for a while." Emily also lists some of these people by name; Paul Octavious, Billy Jack Brawner III and Jimmy Marble. While Emily takes her inspiration from her friends, I have taken some inspiration for my photos from her. In particular, in my still lifes, i especially used some of her photos as inspiration and created some arrangements of my own.
